Open linear encoders operate without mechanical contact between readhead and scale.
They are typically used in measuring systems and comparators, measuring microscopes and precision equipment. Open linear encoders are used in machines and plants where high accuracy of the displayed values is required.
Angular encoders from HEIDENHAIN
are characterized by high measurement accuracy in the range of angular seconds and higher.
They are used:
on rotary and tilting tables, indexing heads, rotary axes, gear cutting machines,
presses, spectrometers and telescopes.
Angle encoders with integral bearings without coupling
Angle encoders with solid ROD shafts operate at high speeds and allow large tolerances for mounting. The use of couplings increases the axial tolerances for mating on the shaft side to ± 1 mm.
Angle encoders without bearings
The bearingless angle encoders ERA and ERO are designed for use on machine elements. They are suitable for the following requirements:
large shaft diameters (belt version up to 10 m)
high speeds (up to 20,000 rpm)
no additional torque due to the sealing ring

ERM embedded sensor
The HEIDENHAIN ERM embedded sensor consists of a magnetized disk and a reading head. Due to the MAGNODUR scale and the magnetic-resistive reading principle, these sensors are very resistant to contamination.
Angular encoder modules
HEIDENHAIN angle encoder modules are the optimal combination of an angle encoder and a high-precision power bearing. They are characterized by high measuring and positioning accuracy, high resolution and excellent repeatability. The low starting torque allows for high running smoothness.
Rotary encoders with integrated sub-bearings
Rotary encoders of types ERN, ECN and EQN with integrated bearings and stator coupling are characterised by simple mounting and small dimensions. They are suitable for mounting on electric motors. Their shaft is connected directly to the shaft to be measured.
The rotary encoders ROD, ROC and ROQ are encapsulated in a hermetically sealed housing. The encoder is coupled to the motor shaft or spindle on the stator side by means of a separate coupling which compensates for the misalignment between the encoder shaft and the motor shaft.
Rotary encoders without bearings
The ECI/EQI 1300 inductive rotary encoders are compatible with the ExN 1300 photoelectric encoders in terms of mounting: the shaft is fixed by means of a centre screw.
The ECI 4000/EBI 4000 type series complements HEIDENHAIN's existing range of inductive encoders. Both types have a modular design without integrated bearings with a hollow shaft diameter of 90 mm. They are designed for use in conjunction with high-torque and hollow shaft motors in drive technology and general automation.
HEIDENHAIN's ERO type embedded rotary encoders
consist of a glass disc with dots (scale) connected to a sleeve and a readout head. They are used in applications with limited installation space or in frictionless applications.

Interface modules
